Attachment focused mentoring has never been more crucial
Over a third of girls in the UK suffer with depression and anxiety
7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way
1 in 3 adult mental health conditions relate directly to adverse childhood experiences
The symptoms of trauma can disrupt a girl's education and are mentally and physically damaging. If we don't intervene, what will happen to these girls?
“I feel happier since my mentor came into my life. I feel like I can tell her anything.”
– Cherished Mentee
I love witnessing girls discover their strengths and grow into their true identity.
– Krista (Cherished Mentor)
I love the enthusiasm of the girls sharing things with you and giving them the time to express themselves. I feel privileged to be around such an inspirational group of ladies.
– Ann (Cherished Mentor)
“Attending the Cherished course stopped me from self-harming.”
– Cherished Course Attendee
The girls involved in Cherished are more confident in the classroom and with their peers. We have noticed academically the girls have improved. We would recommend the Cherished course to schools.
– Year 6 Teacher
The one thing which I feel Cherished has helped me with the most is to know that it doesn’t matter how big your dreams are, as long as you want them enough there is always a way for them to become reality.
– Becky, 17
“I have learnt that it is okay to talk to people at Cherished about what I’m worrying about. It sets my worries free so that I feel better.”
– Cherished Mentee
We offer mentoring to support girls in primary & secondary school on a 1:1 basis to feel safe, seen, soothed and secure. This is a space for girls to feel listened to, understood and to develop connections.
SUPPORTING CHILDRENAt Cherished we believe in the importance of supporting children to feel safe, seen, soothed & secure. Mentoring is a service that we offer on a 1:1 basis for children in primary and secondary school. We are passionate about creating a space where kindness, compassion, connection and a trauma informed practice take priority.
1:1 BASISOur mentors support a child on a 1:1 basis to feel nurtured, seen and listened to. Our mentors are trained to a high standard, have a Level 3 Mentoring qualification, and use a trauma informed approach. The training that our mentors receive equip them with the skills to effectively support a child, their needs and plan mentoring sessions to create an impact.
TAILORED APPROACHWe offer a tailored approach to mentoring. This means that our mentors support the unique needs of their mentee and sessions are planned accordingly to meet those needs. Mentoring sessions are a relaxed, safe, kind and nurturing space. Each mentoring session is planned creatively to meet the unique needs and interests of the mentee. This could include arts, crafts, games and chats.
We can assure you that the child will feel safe, seen, soothed and secure in the hands of our mentors, and as a team, Cherished are here to support you in every step of the way.
The Cherished Course
Our Cherished Course is available for both primary and secondary schools. The course runs for one hour a week for eight weeks, supporting eight referred girls to feel safe, seen, soothed and secure. Through the Cherished course, girls are equipped with the skills and resources to manage themes including self-esteem, friendships, relationships, worries, hopes and dreams and more.
Through creative activities, journal exercises and discussions, the Cherished Course provides the opportunity for every girl to discover her unique strengths, build self-esteem, manage worries, form healthy relationships and feel supported. Girls are provided with resources to keep throughout the course including their own Cherished journal and a ‘calm down’ kit.
“Before the Cherished course, I felt useless and insecure. I felt like I couldn’t talk to people. I felt invisible. Since finishing the Cherished course I have grown more confident and open and talk to more people. I would recommend Cherished to my friends because it helped me to develop nicely.”
