attachment focused mentoring and support services
Cherished offers a range of group and 1:1 mentoring options, to meet the unique needs of each girl we support. We have a dedicated team of highly-trained, volunteer mentors who go into Primary and Secondary schools across Birmingham to deliver our creative mentoring sessions and run The Cherished Course and Blossom groups.
Attachment focused mentoring has never been more crucial
Over a third of girls in the UK suffer with depression and anxiety
7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way
1 in 3 adult mental health conditions relate directly to adverse childhood experiences
The symptoms of trauma can disrupt a girl's education and are mentally and physically damaging. If we don't intervene, what will happen to these girls?
The girls involved in Cherished are more confident in the classroom and with their peers. We have noticed academically the girls have improved. We would recommend the Cherished course to schools.

The one thing which I feel Cherished has helped me with the most is to know that it doesn’t matter how big your dreams are, as long as you want them enough there is always a way for them to become reality.

I love the enthusiasm of the girls sharing things with you and giving them the time to express themselves. I feel privileged to be around such an inspirational group of ladies.

Cherished Mentoring
We offer mentoring to support girls in primary & secondary school on a 1:1 basis to feel safe, seen, soothed and secure. This is a space for girls to feel listened to, understood and to develop connections.
We can assure you that the child will feel safe, seen, soothed and secure in the hands of our mentors, and as a team, Cherished are here to support you in every step of the way.
The Cherished Course
Our Cherished Course is available for both primary and secondary schools. The course runs for one hour a week for eight weeks, supporting eight referred girls to feel safe, seen, soothed and secure. Through the Cherished course, girls are equipped with the skills and resources to manage themes including self-esteem, friendships, relationships, worries, hopes and dreams and more.
Through creative activities, journal exercises and discussions, the Cherished Course provides the opportunity for every girl to discover her unique strengths, build self-esteem, manage worries, form healthy relationships and feel supported. Girls are provided with resources to keep throughout the course including their own Cherished journal and a ‘calm down’ kit.
“Before the Cherished course, I felt useless and insecure. I felt like I couldn’t talk to people. I felt invisible. Since finishing the Cherished course I have grown more confident and open and talk to more people. I would recommend Cherished to my friends because it helped me to develop nicely.”
